You may wonder what to do when you or your loved one:
How quickly can you accurately perform mental operations? Processing Speed reflects the efficiency of our mind and is critical for quick decision-making and problem-solving.
How is your ability to focus, sustain, and shift attention? This domain is crucial for activities that require concentration, the ability to filter distractions, and multitasking.
What's your IQ? General Intelligence encompasses a range of cognitive abilities, including reasoning, problem-solving, abstract thinking, and understanding complex ideas.
How is your recall? This domain assesses the ability to acquire new information (learning) and the capacity to store and later retrieve that information (memory).
Are you achieving your goals? Executive Functioning involves self-regulation processes such as planning, organisation, inhibition, flexible thinking, and problem-solving.
How is your mood? This domain examines your emotional state, and the impact on cognitive function, interpersonal relationships, daily activities, and overall well-being.
Cognitive assessment begins by meeting with one of our neuropsychologists for a thorough interview. The interview gathers comprehensive information about your individual history, cognitive concerns, emotional well-being, and relevant life experiences. Establishing a clear understanding of your background, current challenges, and personal goals is crucial in tailoring subsequent assessments and interventions.
Following the initial interview, you will be administered a series of standardised tests and questionnaires designed to assess various cognitive functions, including memory, attention, language, and executive functioning. These tests provide valuable insights into your cognitive strengths and weaknesses. The testing phase is carefully structured to gather objective data, enabling our neuropsychologists to form a detailed profile of your cognitive abilities and identify any potential neurological or psychological issues.
After completing the testing phase, the neuropsychologist will compile the results into a comprehensive report. This report outlines the findings from each test, interprets the data in the context of your individual profile, and, when applicable, provides diagnostic impressions. Subsequently, you'll meet for a feedback session to discuss the results. This interactive session allows for a detailed explanation of the findings, addressing any questions you may have, and fostering a collaborative understanding of the assessment outcomes and treatment recommendations.
Based on the assessment results and the collaborative discussion during the feedback session, the neuropsychologist will work with you to develop a personalised care plan. This plan may include targeted interventions, therapeutic strategies, and recommendations for ongoing support. These tailored resources and strategies are designed to optimise your cognitive functioning, enhance overall well-being, and address the specific challenges identified during the assessment process.
